The Liberty Tympanic Infared Ear Thermometer is a device capable of achieving a temperature measurement, via an infrared reading, when placed in the auditory canal of a subject. It is a safe means of measuring human body temperature through the ear.
A tympanic thermometer, or ear thermometer, uses infrared radiation and a thermopile (an electronic device that converts thermal energy into electrical energy) detector at the tip of the instrument to measure the temperature of the tympanum (the tympanic membrane, or eardrum).
The advantages of tympanic membrane temperature measurement include ease of use, rapid results and convenience for both the medical professional and patient. They can rapidly assess a patient’s temperature accurately and with little discomfort. Tympanic thermometers can also measure a temperature in under 2 seconds.
